Depends...
On screen it was probably Sean Connery when he did Never say Never again. If memory serves me right, it was because he was under contract for one more film.

If you accept Barry Nelson who first played Bond way back in 1954 on TV (well it is a screen) then it would have to be Timothy Dalton, the 4th Bond of the movie series. Is I right? Or is I ain't?

You've never heard of Barry Nelson? Star of Bond on telly in 1952? Shame on you, Siasl. Go stand in the corner for an hour.

Now, back to the sleuthing trail again...someone between Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, eh?

Well I am royally stumped, so I resorted cravenly to the internet and I cite the following respectable biography site...

https://www.biography.com/people/groups/james-bond-actors

And guess what? They say nix about any actor playing James Bond between Timothy Dalton and the highly wooden Pierce Brosnan.

Could they be wrong? Do you know something nobody else knows? Time to fess up. Siasl.

PS I am sure that a stuntman or two have played James Bond in some dangerous scenes - but I am desperately hoping that even you couldn't be so dastardly devious as to mean an anonymous stuntman or a stand-in? Could you? I wouldn't put it past you. So who was the 5th person to play James Bond on the screen? Please.

Reg Gadney, may he RIP. He played Bond in a biopic of Fleming (Goldeneye, 1989, Anglian TV), who got the name for 007 from his ornithologist mate, who Reg played.

Don't know how you missed that one...

OK, good one Siasl. Very good one. And, like you, I can't understand how I missed it except that I was at the hairdresser's in 1989.
