Eclipses of the Sun..............
« on: 21 March, 2015, 07:47:30 AM »
........are they really worth all the time and energy photographing and broadcasting  and shouting devoted to them?
I have seen maybe a dozen partial eclipses and the big total one in 99, but yesterday I couldnt even be bothered to get out of my chair to take a peek. Am I too old for this world d'you think? Pharp

A good eclipse on a blue sky day is worth gasping about. It evokes primeval feelings.

But I was deep into answering my emails yesterday morning and didn't even notice that it  went dark outside!

And a schoolteacher friend told me over the fish pie last night that her thirty kids were bitterly disappointed...all lined up staring through their special goggles at nothing more exciting a solid flannel grey cloudy Sussex sky.

It was a bit of a flop here and all the advance media hype only made it floppier.
