For some reason I've known for ages that my favourite fjord (the breath-taking Sognefjord in Norway*) is the second longest fjord in the world but I'm burgered if I know which is the longest.

What is the longest fjord in the world and where is it?

* Sognefjord, the longest fjord in Norway is 204km long (which in £.s.d equals a not really very impressive 26 miles and 1,337 yards long).

I have been following TS Pelican of London, a sail training ship that spent the winter moored in Weymouth harbour, using an on-line
real- time tracking site.

She arrived in Bergen 2 days ago and on my screen there is a  note on the map of her location saying just as you have that Sognefjord is the longest fjord .

Very nice town, Esbjerg. Well it is if the crew of the Pelican get way from the docks which I am sure they will do. Where's the Pelican bound for after Jutland?

Getting back to Fjords and what's the longest fjord in the world for a moment, I still haven't been able to track down any fjord longer than Sognefjord so I'm sticking by my guns.

Come in Siasl! You've been a unusually quiet on this subject.

I dont know but at the moment these three are racing neck and neck up towards the exit from Sognefjord in a Tall Ships Race.
