Guess where this is...

It's a town I guarantee that you've heard of...it's been all over your tellies.

Where is it and what's it called?

Did you cheat? Or have you been there? I realised as soon as I posted it that anyone smart enough could just copy and paste the pic into Google Images and all would be revealed. Well done either way!

But, isn't it amazing that Sochi isn't all mountains and snowboarders?

I stumbled upon the photo on an interesting Russian website called EnglishRussia.com that shows Sochi in the 70s and 80s before Olympic gentrification at...

http://englishrussia.com/?s=sochi&x=0&y=0  (You might need to scroll down three of four articles to get to it.)

EnglishRussia is a fascinating continually updated and expanded site full of really whacky aspects of soviet places and life that seldom ever get aired. It's one of my top rainy day specials.

Go to its home page and see their latest articles...all very visual and all very unusual...the Archives column on the right is especially rewarding during monsoons and floods.

It's good to see the Russians capable of a laugh and having a laugh at themselves.

I deeply apologise for doubting your integrity and under-estimating your astounding Holmesian powers. Won't do it again. Ever.
