What is Intelligent Answers about?
« on: 11 March, 2009, 06:42:16 PM »
Welcome to Intelligent Answers -the new questioning answering community!

Why are we here?
For those of you not involved in the set-up of this site, it follows on on from the Lycos iQ site, which shut down on 25 February 2009.  A small group of die-hard iQers decided that the spirit of the iQ site should not die when Lycos pulled the plug, so have been working together to devise an independent successor.

So is this like [oops!] a vastly inferior question and answer site?
No.  We adhere to the principles of Lycos iQ.  We don't want a site full of school kids answering "Yeah, I fink so 2" to every answer - it is called Intelligent Answers because that is what we hope people will find here!

Is it just like Lycos iQ?
In spirit, yes, but in structure, no.  Without the huge resources of Lycos behind us, we cannot replicate the iQ site.  So, on this site, you won't find ranks, points and credits, but we hope you will find the answer to any questions that have been puzzling you, or hear different sides of some great debates.  Hopefully (if the mods do their job!) you won't get questions like "Who is the fittest bird - Jordan or Kate Moss?", "What's your favourite dinosaur?" or even "Do you prefer Pepsi or Coke, and why?"

The site you currently see is not the end of the new project's evolution - we hope it will be just the start.  We'd like a better Q&A site, but frankly, the people involved in the setup have neither the time nor the technical capability - this site represents the best efforts of the volunteers involved in the time we have had.  If anyone with more technical expertise thinks that they can create a better Q&A site, we'd love to hear from you!  but hopefully, this forum will tide us over until that day comes.
