A question about window blinds...
« on: 27 January, 2018, 06:12:43 AM »
I've heard of Venetian blinds and I've heard of Roman blinds...But what are Holland blinds?

I came across "Holland blinds" for the first time last night in a book I was reading. The English author is describing an Old Rectory, and wrote the following...

"Tall narrow windows (Holland blinds at half mast), an exquisite fanlight and elegant mouldings over the front door."

Holland blinds at half mast?  What are Holland blinds?  I got nowhere searching Google. Let me know if you can do better.

Basically they are rollup / rolldown blinds . They are also known as roller blinds . See image below .

The image below shows how they work .

Aw rats, Cosmos!! You say Holland blinds are just plain old roller blinds???  Great answer but what a let down!  I expecting 'Holland blinds' to be something a lot more exotic and mysterious than bog-standard 'roller blinds'!

And how come the Dutch have suddenly got their noses in on the fascinating world of roller blinds?  Did the Dutch invent roller blinds or something?  Call me a Dutchman but do the Dutch have anything to do with roller blinds?  Clogs. Now clogs I can understand, but roller blinds?  No way!
