43 years in solitary confinement. 43 years?
« on: 09 June, 2015, 11:10:52 AM »
And no, this wasn't in a tin-pot dictatorship in the Middle East. It is in America. Can America really claim to be humane and civilised when it dishes out such penal torture as 43 years in solitary confinement?

"Inmate to be freed after 43 years in US solitary confinement"

This BBC article...http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-33059012...also lists unpalatable facts such as "80,000 prisoners estimated to be in solitary confinement in the US...held in 44 states...25,000 in "supermax" jails".

What would 43 years in solitary confinement (ie being locked solitary in a small concrete room all day every day since April 1972!) do to a person's head?

Land Of The Free? Is there any logical explanation why America is so draconian that, to me, it resembles the worst oppressive dictatorship regime?

Any ideas?
