chemotherapy and hair loss.
« on: 27 March, 2009, 08:38:30 PM »
I know this is a very stupid question with a very obvious answer ... but I have been fidgeting with it for days so would like to have the obvious answer confirmed.
When chemo destroys the hair roots - or however it does it - does that affect every hair in the body? It isn't logical to think it is only hair on the head that falls out, but a friend of mine some years ago, while proudly sporting a fabulous wig, seemed still to have eyelashes and brows.
So, I just wondered.

Not a stupid Q at all, JD - looks like it varies from person to person and chemo type to chemo type.
Loads of info here http://www.cancernet.co.uk/hairloss.htm

The friend of mine with cancer lost all hair - eyelashes, the lot.
After the chemo, when her hair grew back, it was a different colour!

She's now on her second course of a different chemo, this one doesn't make your hair fall out at all.
