I'm not sure if this adds insult to injury, but I got a VIP invite from the garage that sold the blessed thing to me.

This is despite my explaining (politely) the reasons why i would not be attanding the last thing I got an invite from them for.

Do you think they're getting short of clients?   ;D

You could even wear a sandwich board and carry a thumping great placard written in blood. Something subtle.

Incredible as it may seem I have, during my current insomniacal episode read this thread (in it's entirety) - for the first time.
Since the spate of tyre pressure questions on Lycos I have studiously ignored any post with a car model in the title!!!!

It is absolutely amazing that Vauxhall allowed this faulty designed engine to remain in service without a re-call to put all the faulty models right. How they have gotten away with it (with the support of a dodgy ombudsman) is beyond belief.
My own dealings with Vauxhall go back many years, with over a half a million miles in Astras and Cavaliers almost without incident or significant off-road time.

The service I received was at times brilliant, working away from home in Cheltenham the clutch in my Astra failed. I phoned the local dealer who came and collected me within an hour and took us back to the dealership. I was told to go and a have a leisurely lunch and when I returned an hour and a half later my car was ready and waiting for me.

At other times I came to realize this standard was not universal

One conflict with them came when, after putting my astra into the main dealer in Bristol for a faulty water pump or something,after collecting the car i drove off down the M5 heading for home in Weymouth only to be pulled over by a police car and informed that I was leaving a trail of oil behind me. Opening the bonnet revealed an engine compartment soaked in oil - caused by a mechanic having clamped a hose securing clip between the cylinder head and the block leaving a nice gap!

A second and final conflict came when I put my Cavalier in for a service in Oxford. I was informed by phone that they had discovered a fault and I OKAYed a replacement part to be fitted, a little later they phoned again to say that during the repair they had discovered another fault did I want it fixed as well. I told them to get on with it as I needed the car back by tea time.

When I turned up to collect and was given the bill I was gobsmacked. It was at least twice as much as I was expecting! I checked out the full report and bill and discovered they were charging me labour time for 8 hours even though the car was in their workshops for only 4. I went straight to the managers office and demanded an explanation. He informed me that the two repairs they carried out were charged as per a standard tariff published by Vauxhall engineering. So I got charged as though they had stripped down the engine twice, once for each component though in fact the second component was replaced as part of the the first repair. I informed him that unless this bill was put right my next port of call would be the Trading Standards Office.
Well, after a brief umming and ahhing he went away and came back with a fresh bill for half the amount,  which I paid gratefully and left never to return to a main Vauxhall dealer again.

My zafira has had same problem started off kangerooing and then lost power. It was taken to garage. If it is I then need to replace that so all in all, in the end I would have paid 1,000 on it. This does not guarantee it will work. I wont know for another week so a whole month my car would have been off the road and if that doesnt solve the problem I then want to complain to Vauxhall as clearly I have placed everything possible and still no car. I would say dont ever buy a vauxhall ever again. Constant problems with zafiras and vauxhall deny having any faults. If its happening around the UK then clearly there is a problem.

It's not just Vauxhall's. I had a Triumph that kangaroo'd mysteriously. Ten or twelve visits to the mechanic's shop found nowt. It'd kangaroo all the way to the workshop but drive perfectly as soon as the mechanic took it out for a road test. Gremlins!

Finally it was diagnosed as being minute particles of the rubber seal round the distributor vulcanising with age and odd microscope[ic particles of the rubber seal blocking the air intake or something. These mini rubber particles eventually cleared the pin-prick sized air intake and the car would drive normally. Until next time.

It drove me spare for months at the time and the only joy was that the mechanic was a friend's brother so no charge.

It seemed a bit weird seeing a new post on this now.

As six years (and more) have passed any recourse to court proceedings is now closed.

As much as a swift drive past the st albans road site, lobbing Molotov cocktails would be satisfying,  it is just not worth the hassle afterwards.

The funny thing is that I am currently driving an 02 Zafira.

This one however was previously owned by my late father in law and I have a good idea of its history.

It will be however the last Vauxhall I will ever own.

Hi guys, help needed if possible.. zafira 2.2 design petrol. Car starts,drives and randomly looses power and gets restricted to 3000 revs with foot flat to floor. Turn ignition on and off again car will start and run fine for a few miles and randomly does same again.. ive changed coil pack plugs crank sensor, anyone had this problem and solved it? Appreciate any help... nice one....

This may not be the answer to your problems Russ because I have never owned a Zafira 2.2 but...

I owned a Triumph that had exactly the same intermittent problems you describe.

Could it simply be a slight temporary blockage in the engine's air intake system (starving the engine temporarily of air) that's causing your problems? Temporarily starving your engine of oxygen would cause all of the symptoms you describe.

With my Triumph it was simply caused by minute and invisible specks of vulcanised rubber that were dropping down from the grommet that sealed the air intake. One invisible speck was all it took to block one of the two needle-thin air intake holes.

Annoyingly, every time I took it in to a mechanic, the problem had disappeared because the air intake would have suddenly cleared itself.

When I drove away, the problems would mysteriously come back as a new, almost invisible minute speck of rubber dropped in to block the microscopically small air intake hole. I drove  (limped) back to the garage and the speck had cleared again - it drove me nuts.

It took well over 6 months of visiting umpteen mechanics before one of them eventually found the source of the problem. And the cost of replacing the old grommet was a matter of pence.

As I said, I do not own a Zafira 2.2 but it might be well worth checking with your local garage if your car's problem could be as simple and mysterious as mine.

The good news is that it may not be something major or mechanical (or cripplingly expensive) causing your problems. It's certainly worth checking if your air intake is clean inside. And changing the grommet - if your car has one.
