Title: How long does chilli oil take to fade from fingers?
Post by: Duffield1 on 08 March, 2018, 09:33:47 AM
I admit, I normally use lazy chilli when cooking curries and the like, but last night, finding a fresh chilli in a pack of veg, decided to use that.  I washed my hands well immediately after chopping it, but hours later, when I touched my mouth, I experienced a familiar burning sensation!  I washed and scrubbed my hands again.

At bed time, I rubbed my eyes - big mistake, followed by much more hand washing.

Then, this morning, I put my contact lenses in.  Agony!  It took three pairs of disposable lenses before I managed to get them in without contaminating them with fire.

How long will I have to wait before the capiscum wears away and I can be cool hand Luke again?

I have done that, Siasl! By gum does it hurt! It was 12 inches of sheer agony! OK I might have exaggerated a wee bit there. It was 10 inches of sheer agony!
I'd been merrily chopping chillies when, after about ten minutes or a quarter of an hour, I toddled off for a quick pee. And Shazzaaam!
It was just as painful as getting chilli juice in your eyes. In fact it was like the very worse dose of terminal cystitis you'll ever experience.
But Duff asked How long does chilli oil take to fade from the fingers?  I'd say probably at least 10 minutes. Maybe more. Could be for lot more for all I know. To be honest I cannot say exactly - and I haven't any urge to try to find out!
