Title: Where does the tradition of carving Halloween pumpkins come from?
Post by: P-Kasso2 on 17 May, 2015, 10:26:38 AM
I was looking at some old photos of me carving pumpkins with my children one Halloweeen years ago and I realised I didn't
know a bean about the craze for carving pumpkins then....and I still don't.

I'll admit it is great fun. But you also have to admit it IS a very weird hobby.
So I was wondering if carving pumpkins is a relatively new fad
or does it have a long and illustrious history?

Is it a uniquely American practice? Or, at least, did it start out uniquely American and then go global?

Was it imported into America by immigrants? From which country?

How long does the history of pumpkin carving stretch back?

Or did it just start as folk art?

Lots more questions. Can you explain the story behind pumpkin carving?
